User guide
Use this guide to browse, play, organize, and share Library Content in Kinosail.
Explore all Player features for the complete task map, including offline playback, reading, and web-app installation.
Choose a task
- Browse and search to find a title, album, book, photo, or episode.
- Play media to resume playback, select tracks, use chapters, and understand playback modes.
- Profiles and household access to understand Owner and Viewer access.
- Lists and collections to save, curate, and queue media.
- Share and watch together to use Media Shares, Watch Rooms, and permitted downloads.
Know your role
An Owner manages the Server and Profiles. An Owner can create and change Viewer Profiles, libraries, playback settings, integrations, backups, and shares.
A Viewer uses only the libraries and actions allowed by the Owner. A Viewer cannot manage the Server. A Viewer’s viewing history, progress, ratings, and My List are separate from other Profiles.
The Owner can limit a Viewer by library, content rating, viewing hours, remote access, transcoding, and downloads. A restriction applies at the Server, not only in the web interface.
A short first session
- Open the Kinosail address and sign in with your Profile.
- Choose a destination such as Movies, Shows, Music, Books, or Photos.
- Open a title and select Play.
- Use Add to My List when you want to return later.
- Use Playback & downloads for playback mode, offline preparation, and subtitle search when those actions are available.
If a page does not show a control, the item type, your Profile policy, or the Server configuration may not permit it. See Troubleshooting.
Keep the boundary clear
Kinosail sends media directly between your device and the owner-hosted Server. Kinosail does not operate a media relay. Optional metadata, subtitle, identity, DNS, or notification services receive only the requests needed for the integration that the Owner enables.
