Kinosail

More control.
More to learn.

A note from the creator.

I started Kinosail Player because I wanted more control over my personal media library and a chance to build something of my own.

I’ve been into technology pretty much my whole life and have worked in a range of roles, including development. Kinosail gives me a chance to put that experience to work while learning something new.

Two goals, one real project.

  • Build a useful, source-available media Server for managing and enjoying your own library.
  • Improve my AI engineering skills by building something I actually use.

Yes, it’s AI-engineered.

AI is a central part of how Kinosail is developed. I direct the work and make the decisions. This is an ongoing engineering project, with all the testing, feedback, and iteration that involves.

The aim is a useful product: a Server that’s straightforward to run, a web interface for everyday use, and control over the media you already have. Player is built with Go and HTMX, keeping most application logic in one place.

Your library stays yours.

Player runs on your hardware and uses your existing media folders. Original media is mounted read-only. Local use doesn’t need a Kinosail-hosted account. Optional services and remote access have their own boundaries, explained in the architecture and privacy guide.

Kinosail is source-available under the PolyForm Perimeter license. Read the license for its permissions and commercial-competition boundary.

Help make it better.

I use Kinosail myself, but my setup only tells part of the story. Bug reports and honest feedback help: what works, what’s confusing, and what breaks.

Start with Player for playback or Subtitles for sidecar files, then tell me how it goes.
